Office Update

I mentioned I proposed a built-in shelf for Mr. Office.
He liked the two shelf version best.

Tony Clementi of Designed Companies
started with using industrial sized anchors that were drilled in to studs in the wall.
It was important for the shelves to be able to hold a lot of weight for heavy frames and books.

Tony came up with the idea to have the shelf extend from one end of the wall to the other
which visually made them look seamless and modern.

I didn't want moulding.
Just a simple, clean, linear shelf with a lip to help secure what's on it.
I had the shelves painted the same color as the wall which as you know, is my slow jam.
The whole thing looks drop dead awesome.

I decided to nix the standing books idea because it looked too busy with the rock memorabilia.
The bottom shelf will now hold family pictures in gallery frames
which should be the last job of the room.

For whatever reason I don't have a view of the entire room so until then
here are some very dark phone pictures
for you to eyeball.

Doings

Here are some doings in which I've been engaged in.

I helped a friend put up a family gallery wall.
I was nervous because most of the frames were small and I thought it may look too busy,
but it turned out fab.
Just don't look behind the frames. Ha.
But seriously...don't.

I pitched a built-in ledge to Mr. Office Redo.
The office doesn't have room for bookcases and every office needs books,
{duh}
so the bottom ledge will fit standing, face forward art or coffee table type books
while the top ledge will house personal photographs and rock memorabilia, which the Mr. has lots of.

And more from Project Office,
custom trimmed curtains were hung on the bay window with Ikea RACKA curtain rods
and corner connectors.
Many thanks again to Naomi for the idea.

Apologies for the bad, dark camera phone picture of the bay office window.

The little things are getting to me lately.
People I normally think are awesome I'm finding annoying.
I need a break.

On Thursday I'm heading to Los Angeles to visit my BFF since I was three, Ann.
I'm beyond excited to be with her.
I know it will be just what I need to get back into the fray.
I barely remember what life was like without you.

Jackpot

Last Saturday
Client F, Hubs and I went to gander a midcentury modern dresser I'd been eyeing on eBay
for F's office redo.
The seller lived close so it was a short jaunt to his house.
The guys house was unbelievable.
First he let us roam about and said everything inside was for sale and no, he wasn't moving.
What the what?

There were lamps, art, furniture, vintage cameras, glass paper weights, the list goes on and on.
It was all stuff he'd bought from traveling the globe and shopping estate sales.
I was in heaven.

I got these two Indonesian bad gals who currently flank a bench in my entry.

And this Mexican ceramic pineapple which I'm infatuated with.
I think its insides hold the key to life's mysteries because I can't stop gazing at it.

We then followed the seller to a storage facility
where he had two lockers filled with midcentury modern furniture--
bed sets, side tables, desks, chairs, dressers.
Client F got the dresser pictured above and also three vintage cameras.

As for office updates,
yesterday I took these Ikea curtain panels to the tailor to have this trim sewn to them.

Shout out to Naomi at Design Manifest for the idea.
Sadly, I lack a talented seamstress in the family like she has.
Lucky duck.

It's coming together.

Vent

This office redo is kicking my ass.

Not only because I'm doing it while maintaining the job of caregiver to my household of six,
but also because I can't stop obsessing over it again and again and again.

I wake up to pee in the night...
I'm obsessing.
I'm drinking morning coffee...
I'm obsessing.
I'm driving in car to take kids here and there...
I'm obsessing.

I've spent many an hour obsessing over my home.
Over the smallest tabletop accessory.
This is different because it's not for me or someone I know that well.
How do you tell a story {through said office} of someone you kind of know?
I'm finding out it's way hard.

I'm also figuring out that I love doing this more than anything I've ever done.
So there's that.

Project Office

Project Office for Client F is in full effect.

My goals for this office:
1.  give it style
2.  make it multifunctional
3.  tell who he is
4.  have the room be an experience to work in everyday

I'm starting from scratch which is awesome.
I'm keeping the wall color and also the desk which is basic and black.
Here are the befores.

Hiding super fug cords and boxes are always a dilemma in offices so I'm hoping this mirrored table
from Target will do the job.

We've also bought these items from West Elm.

I'll keep you updated.
