New Room for Large

I'm almost done with Large's room.
She loves how it came together and I do too.
There are small things left to do and I'll pick them up randomly as I find them.
Like a colorful kilim or dhurrie rug.
And eventually more frames for her wall of friends.
After eying these pictures
{that were badly taken with my iphone but you get the point}
I decided to get a larger bulletin board above her bed.
In person the size doesn't bother me but in these pictures the board feels too small for the space.
The black and white fabric is a major score from Ikea.
Only $7.99 per yard.
It reminds me of Albert Hadley's Fireworks print
which...please...if anything of Albert Hadley's was in my home
the last place I would put it is in a kids room.
That shit would shine bright like a diamond, front and center, with major spotlights.

Apple Green Rustoleum was exactly the color I was looking for in a desk chair.
It's the perfect mint green.

Frames for friend wall are from Target.
The mirrored frames are by their Threshold line.
Wall color is BM Ming Jade.

Bedding is from PBTeen and the monogramming is only $7 extra per monogram.
My latest obsession is monogrammed bedding.
Last but not least,
the perfect finishing touch to the room is the decorative pillow I bought on Etsy from
at the amazingly low cost of 35 bones.
Okay. I'll stop.

My Favorite Fireplace

Tonight I meet with the couple whose office I'm designing.
I've been searching out inspiration via the usual suspects on interweb.
It seems I found it in one simple mantel picture.

The whole image speaks to me in so many ways and I aspire every space I live in to be like it.
It has everything that I love...interest for days--
layer upon layer of art, color, whimsy, varying textures, personal objects.
It's practical and livable.
Who knew a fireplace could be such an experience and could allow a sense of knowing a person.

Mr. Wes is in the Building

Moonrise Kingdom Kanye Wes

Team Zissou Kanye Wes

 Royal Tenenbaums Kanye Wes

Rushmore Kanye Wes

I told you I follow Kanye Wes on Tumblr.
He combines Kanye West lyrics to Wes Anderson movie stills.
I saw these prints by Phil Howell Design and immediately fell in love with them.
I bought Moonrise Kingdom Kanye Wes.
You can too here.

Join Our Oscar Pool

Hubs and I are Oscar crazy.
For the last seven years we've hosted an Academy Awards pool for friends and family.

Our love affair with Oscar started ten years ago
when we were in LA for Hubs business during the awards ceremony.
We stayed right in the middle of it all, Beverly Hills, where celebs, goody bags, and limo lines
crowded our hotel.
We watched stretch limousines pick up primped and pompadoured ladies and gents from our balcony,
ordered assorted finger foods and watched the show in the comfort of our room.
Best night ever.
Thus starting the ritual of being in LA for the Oscars.
We did it for three years.

In celebration of that too short lived tradition,
Oscar Pool lets us pose as insiders and vote for our favorite nominees like a member of the academy.
A lot of people get anxious about not seeing any or all of the movies
but that doesn't matter.
In my humble opinion, guessing correctly is all about hype, who's who, PR and history.
I will guarantee one thing about our Pool.
It makes watching the Academy Awards show
*even sound mixing*
 exciting.

So join us here.
It's only $5 per entry so there's really no reason to say no.
That is unless you're not in to winning money or having good times with a group of strangers.
What...?

The Fantastic Mr. Fox and Flu

Our house is currently plagued by flu
during a season in which all mankind seems to be in acquaintance.
It started with the kids,
because all sickness and germs begin with them and their inability to not touch,
and has moved on to Hubs
who was up all night retching and hunched over the toilet bowl.
Miraculously I haven't been affected yet
{fingers crossed}.

My today will be about blankets and movies and low key hang time
while zoning out to 'The Fantastic Mr. Fox',
which has become our favorite comfort movie during veg fests.

Side note:
I follow a funny being on Tumblr called kanyewesanderson who wittingly combines
lyrics of Kanye West's songs to Wes Anderson movie images.

If you are a fan of the two, which I am very much,
it's a must see here.

An Apology and Exciting News

I'm sorry about the video fiasco.
It turns out the mini home movie from my last post can only be seen on a laptop or desktop.
It's a video of Hubs mocking my continuous arranging of our home
 played out by Disney princesses.
Funny{har har}.
But really it is and you should check it.

Also
some exciting news to report,
I was officially asked to design an office space for a neighbor friend who works from his home.
When I say 'official' I mean he offered me money.
As in a real job.
As in getting paid to do what I love and obsess over even when I'm not getting paid.
I've helped numerous friends with their homes but always felt silly taking money from them for it.
But now I feel it's not so silly.
It's what I want to do with myself...hopefully more so after kids are older.
Also, reading this helped.

Large's room redo is almost complete.
Her new bedding and curtains came last week and they look amazing with the new wall color.
I'm a little jealous because her bedroom is now way cooler than mine,
but I've already got ideas for a new master suite swirling around in the noggin.

This is Large's bedding.

This is her new wall color.

This is a decorative accent pillow I bought on etsy.

I also found a vintage bentwood Thonet chair for $35,
I'll say it again...$35,
that I'm painting mint green to go with the desk I scored on eBay for $99.
I love eBay more than most people I know.
True story.

And, as long as I'm divulging everything, this is my new favorite table topper
which I don't own but someday hope to.
