Benjamin Moore Hale Navy

Hubs spent the last two days painting the family room and kitchen.
It looks crazy good.

We decided to paint the doors and surround trim the same navy as the walls.
I wish I had the words to describe how much I love it.
While attending Abigail Ahern's masterclass this summer
the ideas that stayed with me most were

1. Go to the dark side with paint
2.  Paint walls, doors and moulding the same color

When everything is painted the same color,
the stuff you purposefully put in your home is pushed to the front--
furniture, art, books, rugs.

All the doors and trim in my house are painted white but not for long.
Why would I want the first thing people see be the doors?

Look at the art!
I carried it home from trips abroad.
Look at the books!
Every museum I've ever visited has a book in the shelves.
Look at the furniture!
That was my great grandparents.

Don't look at the doors. They builder grade and they ugly.

A round of applause needs to be given to BM Hale Navy.
It envelopes you and its cozy and its exactly what I was hoping for.

Abigail Ahern Is Lovely

Abigail Ahern was such an inspiration.
Her masterclass was a feast of knowledge about all things interior.
She broke the class down by rooms
talking devotedly of layering, playing with scale, thinking outside the box, and visual friction.

The second half of the day was advice
on choosing paint colors, mixing patterns, adding texture, finishing touches like rugs and lighting,
and creating a space that expresses who you are,
which as you see here
is true of her London home.

It was a wonderful Saturday getting to know all types of interesting people.
I left the class with a buzz
{celebratory Prosecco toasts abound}
and a fresh confidence that the design world is where I want to be.

The group ate lunch with Abigail at The Breslin inside The Ace Hotel.

4 Days To Go

Four more days and I'll be in NYC with Abigail Ahern.
I'm nervous and excited about what we'll talk about in her masterclass.
It's a deal--
People Magazine will be there and a camera crew and other press to document the day.

No more pussy-footing around.
It's time to put myself out there and tell the universe I'm ready for more.

On August 4th I fly to NYC to meet Abigail Ahern

and attend TWO of her masterclasses
at the too cool for school Ace Hotel in Manhattan.

I couldn't agree more.

Speaking of Feathers...

Look what I got for Mother's Day.
Hubs surprised me with an orange juju hat, exactly what I wanted.
I may start using this blog for evil purposes {subliminal advertising} to create my dream wish list.
So far so good.
There's been recent talk of a fall trip to London to attend an Abigail Ahern masterclass.
We'll see what the future holds.

Abigail Ahern

 via The Selby

I am a big fan of Abigail Ahern.
First off, her home. Amazing.
It's a sensory overload of bold color, layers of texture, and a whimsical sense of humor.
You feel like you know her through her home.
And her blog is even better.
You can tell through her writing that she loves what she does and who she is.
It would be a dream to attend one of her masterclasses in London.
