I Love/Hate September

The shit storm of activity called September is almost over.
I'm ready for normalcy and routine to return to my everyday.

Not only is September back to school time
it's also my birthday
Hubs birthday,
our three daughters birthdays,
and sister-by-laws birthday.
Our house is all
family and food and presents and slumber parties {ugg}.

Today I actually get some time to myself.
So in celebration of me time
as well as a shout out to my favorite season, fall
here are some drop dead, crazy good, shh-tunningly gorge interiors to admire.

You're welcome.

New Domino

Finally got around to buying the fall/winter 2012 edition of domino.
Wasn't as excited as last go round due to all the recycled images from previous issues
but still felt inclined to spend the $11,
especially seeing Rashida Jones on the cover.
I enjoyed the panel of 'expert opinions' that were peppered throughout the mag
giving tidbits of wisdom and funny diatribes

"Anyone who doesn't watch TV is insane. The sure way to kill the life of a room is not to have one in it, ergo all the unused living rooms in America."
Jonathan Adler

"Function comes first in the entry hall. We plop things. We need places for our ploppables."
Todd Oldham

Todd Oldham on scented candles:
"They can't be from one of those stores in the mall that makes you gag as you walk by. No candle that has a scent described as food! No holiday pie scent!"

I liked how everyones opinion seemed different from the next person.
Some liked house plants, some preferred fresh flowers, some liked 14 inch coffee table heights,
some thought 17 inches was best.
It reinforces the idea that good design is in the eye of the beholder.

Ellen DeGeneres in Architectural Digest

I love, love the former LA home of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia DeRossi.
Especially the entryway
which housed a glass ping pong table by Argentinian artist Rirkrit Tiravanija.

I am in to any room that's utilized in an unconventional way.
It speaks volumes about who they are and how they live,
which all homes should do.

Floating glass shelving above kitchen island. Yes.

I saw this concrete ping pong table by James DeWulf for sale at OKL
if you're looking to mimic the idea.

New BFF's

I have long been in love with Beyonce.
She's an amazing singer/entertainer and so incredible to look at, she hurts my eyes.
When B and Jay Z got together, it was my own personal dream team.

So you can imagine my excitement when Hubs forwarded this email to me today:
Move over bitches
{aka Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin}.
It's On to the Next One.

Painted Doors

This is it.
This is some of the change upcoming in my ever-evolving house plans.
All doors and frames will be painted the same color as the room.
No more white molding. crown will be white and baseboards will be white...
but everything else will fade into the wall color
which will be painted this.
Benjamin Moore
hale navy HC-154

This navy will envelop the back half of my house
which is the family room {including fireplace} and kitchen walls, doors, and frames.

The front entry and living room will be this.
Benjamin Moore
chelsea gray HC-168

Here's an example of chelsea gray in Brooke Shield's NYC townhouse.

In my head the new colors look amazing.
I may even get that poster from the first image, because it will be where its fuckin at.
I can't wait to show you everything.
And I will.
